Both Teen Mom OG and Teen Mom 2 have been struggling to get the ratings that the show used to bring in. Season after season, the ratings have plummeted and because of that, MTV reportedly is combining the shows to create one, and ditching some of the moms in the process.
An anonymous source reportedly told, The Ashley’s Reality Roundup that this big change is their last hope for keeping the Teen Mom franchise alive.
The source said:
“This is like their last-ditch effort to keep the shows going.”
Reportedly, the most recent season premiere brought in a measly 459,000 live viewers, which is the third worst ratings in Teen Mom history.
According to the Ashley report, many people won’t make the cut for the combo show, including producers, and even some of the moms, since 10 moms would be a lot to follow on one show.
The source claimed:
“It’s circulating through the casts and crews but I don’t think it’s made its way to everyone.”
The MTV execs are currently going through all their options for keeping the show alive, but this seems to be the answer.
They are also considering shaking up the format of the show so that each episode would show different moms, depending on who has some drama or something to draw fans in.
The source said:
“That way it would only cover the girls who actually had something interesting happening in their lives at the moment.”
Reportedly, MTV can’t afford to keep all the people employed now if the shows combine.
A source said:
“There are just too many people working on this franchise and it’s not bringing in the ratings and money it once did. They needed to come up with a way to keep the show going but in a cheaper way. The casts salaries are enormous and it costs a lot of money to fly all over the country to film the girls.”
Another source added that MTV is realizing that the filming process could be way easier.
“Everyone was in one place, making the cost, scheduling and COVID protocols much easier than going to the girls’ homes.”
Apparently MTV is also taking other things into consideration when making changes, mainly the age of the stars.
It’s no surprise since fans have been pointing out the fact that the girls are no longer “teen moms” for many years now. Most cast members are in their late 20’s, going on 30 years old.
The source said:
“These girls haven’t been teens in over a decade. It’s ridiculous that they’re still on a show called ‘Teen Mom'”
They also added that:
“Fans have been saying it for years, so it’s likely that the [new] show’s name will not be ‘Teen Mom’, or at the very least, will be changed to better reflect their current situations.”
Only time will tell what the future will hold for the “Teen Mom” girls.
