Teen Mom star Leah Messer had had her share of rocky relationships, including not one but two failed marriages, so it’s not a shocker that she might have some trust issues in her new relationship. Leah revealed on the most recent episode of Teen Mom: Family Reunion, that she struggles to trust her boyfriend Jaylan Mobley.
Early on in the episode, Leah was called out by her co stars for being pretty quiet, and also appearing “guarded” and unable to “open up”.
Leah finally revealed that she was struggling with some trust issues, and not just with the other moms of the show.
She told the other moms:
“I just need to trust people because I think I’ve been burned so many times. I always feel like everyone has an ulterior motive and that’s f**ked up.”
She also shared that she knew she was holding back with Jaylan, as she refused to let herself tell him she missed him.
She said:
“Even that whole situation, I’m like I don’t miss you. I’m fine on my own.”
Because Jaylan would soon be joining her on the show, Leah thought it might be a good idea to talk things through with the show’s therapist, Coach Bryant.
During their meetup, Leah told her coach that she knew it was more than just about trust, but also about her not “letting love in”.
When asked about where Leah felt her issues stemmed from, she mentioned her relationship with her father, and her childhood issues, as well as her past romantic relationships.
She said:
“I think it’s because of relationships in the past. I think there’s a lot of situations. My dad wasn’t around. In and out of jail and on drugs.”
She continued:
“Me and my dad were really really close up until…”
And then Leah started to tear up and get very emotional. Coach Bryant noted “Emotions came up, you deflected.”
Leah then opened up a lot more and said:
“One memory that stands out is when I had to pick up pop cans because that’s how he would collect money to come and see me but he really didn’t ever show up. ‘Will I ever be good enough?’ but then I’m like, I’ll be good enough for me.”
She continued:
“I know I can take care of me and my kids and they’ll never have to worry about anything like that. But I want to be loved, too, the same way that I’ve loved other people. I just have a hard time accepting that when it happens.”
In a private confessional, Leah said:
“Hearing all the other moms open up, I know I need to go deeper.”
Later in another confessional she said:
“Trust issues has caused me relationships in the past.”
After Jaylan arrived to the filming of the show, Leah pulled him aside and they had a heart to heart by the pool.
It started off flirty but then moved to more serious when he asked her if she had doubts about their relationship.
Leah said:
“I don’t think that I have doubts. … ok, f**k it. I do have doubts.”
Jaylan responded:
“I’m giving everything I’ve got and I’m like how long can I keep that up before I feel like I look like I’m trying too hard? I don’t want to get into your life and mess that up.”
Leah replied:
“I want to be close to you. I want you to see the good and bad and accept that. … It would be easier if you lived closer.”
Later on in a confessional, Jaylan shared his concerns about their relationship.
He said:
“The most scariest thing about dating someone with kids is messing that up. They get emotionally attached.”
Jaylan has been pretty close with Leah’s daughters throughout their relationship and has even spent every holiday with them as a family.
