Leah Messer had a pretty turbulent childhood and some difficult relationships with both her mother and father. On the latest episode of Teen Mom 2, Leah revealed that her father recently called her to bail him out of jail, and also that they had used drugs together in the past.
Leah was speaking with a friend when she revealed the news.
She said:
“Guess who else called me this morning. Of course of all days on a day of a date my dad called me and said he’s in jail.”
Leah was was talking about her first date with her now boyfriend, Jaylan Mobley, as she laughed half heartedly.
She continued:
“When does my dad call me? I haven’t even heard from him in over a year. He was like ‘they said I’m gonna have to get an attorney’ and I’m like I’m not paying for your attorney.”
While having this discussion with her friend, she suddenly got a call from her younger sister, Victoria.
Victoria was crying and upset about their father’s arrest and jail time and Leah was not happy that her sister was letting their father upset her like that.
Leah said:
“Why are you crying? … He need to take ownership of it. you can’t blame the court system for your own stupidity.”
She then added that her father can’t even be bothered to call her on her birthday, but for this he can make a call to her.
She said:
“You called me ‘cause you’re in jail. You can’t call me for my birthday.”
The conversation ended and Leah then headed out on her first big date with Jaylan.
Later on in the episode, Leah visited Victoria to continue the conversation about their dad and to fill her in on the details of her date.
Victoria questioned whether Leah had shared the news about their father with her date, to which Leah replied that she shifted her energy elsewhere.
She said:
“I love him, but at the end of the day you got arrested? You went to jail? Ok.”
She then continued:
“I don’t want my kids to see that and I sure as hell don’t want to see that.”
She then dropped a bomb no one was expecting.
She revealed to her sister:
“When I was with dad, that relationship was toxic. I used with him. We enabled each other’s addiction and there’s no way I can go back to that.”
The conversation ended with Leah declaring: “I’m done. You know what I mean? I’m done.”
In Leah’s best selling book, she revealed a lot more about the strained relationship with her father.
She wrote:
“With the opioid epidemic we are facing today, my dad always ties into that. I started doing my own research on when my dad started struggling with addiction and why he struggled with addiction.”
“Come to find out in between 1995 and 1997 they started prescribing oxycodone. It was a highly addictive drug they swore wasn’t an addictive drug. My father broke his neck and back working on bridges in West Virginia. From there he went to some doctor for worker’s comp. That’s how my dad became addicted to the medication and still is to this day.”
Leah is now clean and sober and is working to help fund more addiction treatment centers in her home state of West Virginia.
