The initial idea for a ‘Teen Mom’ series was simple, film the girls throughout their everyday life and show the struggle of being a teenage mother.
MTV managed to make a series out of the simple yet ‘taboo’ topic and it was proven to be a success.
‘Teen Mom’ Ratings & Viewership data
The season 9 was the first ‘Teen Mom 2’ season without the veteran cast member, Jenelle Evans.
Jenelle’s absence from the series didn’t prove to be fatal to the ratings.
However, they did drop by a certain percentage.
According to the data from 2019, season 9 premiere captured the attention of 810,000 viewers. Additionally, it was rated .45
As a comparison, ‘Teen Mom 2’ was watched by nearly 1 million people per episode in the previous season when Jenelle was still with the network.
Teen Mom: OG
Teen Mom: OG’s viewership data indicates a steady but declining future of the show.
OG’s last season, season 8, brought in an estimated 990,000 viewers.
The past season of the series brought along many changes to the show’s structure, such as Cheyenne Floyd being a replacement for Farrah Abraham, and Bristol Palin quitting after being introduced.
After announcing her departure from the series, Bristol took to Instagram further elaborated on her decision.
“Teen Mom OG wasn’t a fit for me, it took away my peace.. and honestly – my peace has a price tag that no one but God can afford,” she explained.
Teen Mom: Young & Pregnant
MTV’s ‘Young & Pregnant’ is the latest installment in the ‘Teen Mom’ series. Being the newest show in the series comes with its challenges & rewards.
The challenging bit about it is the audience and the raw numbers to go against the more popular shows, ‘Teen Mom 2’ and ‘Teen Mom: OG’.
Perhaps MTV doesn’t intend for the shows to compete against the other but it certainly seems that way in practice.
‘Young + Pregnant’ season 2 premiered in 2019 with 410,000 viewers.
The show’s viewership data indicates a demand for something new as long as it’s under the ‘Teen Mom’ branding.
Some fans are increasingly vocal about ‘Teen Mom 2 & Teen Mom: OG’ girls being the past now as the show enters its 10th year of existence.
With new seasons of both ‘Teen Mom 2’ & ‘Teen Mom: OG’, new data is expected to shed some light on whether the ‘OG’ girls can still keep viewers engaged or not.
