Depression is a serious medical condition that should be looked upon very carefully and steps should be taken to prevent it from hurting your loved ones, or yourself. A more precise definition of Depression by the American Psychiatric Association would be: “Depression (major depressive disorder) is a common and serious medical illness that negatively affects how you feel, the way you think and how you act.”
Throughout the many seasons of Teen Mom: OG, Amber revealed that she struggled and still struggles with depression, much like her fellow co-star, Catelynn Lowell.
It seems like filming the show definitely doesn’t help Amber, as she recently tweeted out: “My name will not get smeared anymore.”
Additionally, she tweeted: “I can’t do this anymore,” citing the show’s wrong portrayal of herself and the people surrounding her.
When elaborating on her short but devastating tweets, Amber replied to a fan seeking answers: “The heartache this show has put me through is too much to bear anymore,” she said.
“If I will not be shown then there’s nothing more to do. My name will not get smeared anymore. I hope everyone is resting easy with the money they’ve made off of heartache and pain that I’ve endured,” Amber continued.
Amber’s darkest hours
In the most recent episode of Teen Mom: OG, Amber revealed her most dangerous depression episode yet.
“There was a night that I was waiting for [Andrew Glennon] and James to go to bed so I could kill myself,” she revealed. “And for some odd reason he could feel it and he was like, ‘I’m not going to bed'”.
Portwood confessed her thoughts to her co-star, Catelynn Lowell, who is also going through the same state of mind.
“It doesn’t feel good to go and do things, it doesn’t feel good to be alive right now,” she confessed.
Adding that, “I just don’t want to be like that for the rest of my life.”
Catelynn discussed the opportunity to help Amber with her husband Tyler, deciding that visiting her would be a good idea.
When the two got together, Amber was thankful for Cait’s message: “When I got that voicemail from you, it really hit my heart. I’m at my end. I’m literally, I feel like I’m at my lowest right now,” Portwood said.
“It’s MTV, this show has ruined my name. This show has not shown who I am as a person. They don’t show the funny side of me, they show a bad mom, they show all that…” Portwood added.
